TS-430S RECEIVER REPAIR

Kenwood TS-430S Low Receiver Sensitivity Repair. October 2021

Overview of non-Kenwood TS-430S Low Receiver Sensitivity Repair.

Low or intermittent reception on the TS-430S radio may be caused by poor contact on one or more of the LPF (Low Pass Filter) relays. In most cases, the following procedure can correct this problem without needing to clean or replace the relays. The procedure involves passing a relatively high current (about 500mA) through the contacts to burn off any oxidation or contamination and clean the contacts. This procedure is based on Kenwood TS-430S Service Bulletin - ASB-0902: INTERMITTENT RX.

2 x 56ohm 5W Ceramic resistors wired in parallel.

Apply a 13.8VDC power supply to the antenna terminal through a 28-ohm, 10W resistor for approximately 1 minute while pressing and holding the 'UP' band-switch of the TS-430A (make sure the 1 MHz switch is ON). This will cycle through all the filter relays and remove any oxidation or contamination from the relay contacts. If using the same power supply, ensure that the positive terminal is connected to the centre of the antenna connector.

If using the same power supply ensure the positive of the supply is connected to the centre of the antenna connector.

VK6YSF JS8Call and Olivia 8/250 operations.

Current activity is generally focused - though not restricted to - JS8Call operations on the 20m, 30m, and 40m bands.

Currently there is a particular emphasis on JS8Call on the 10 and 12 m band between 00:00 and 12:00 Z, often extending beyond this period.

Olivia 8/250 is used occasionally on the 20m band.

Proposed band and mode activity is often communicated on HamSpots: https://hamspots.net/js8/ or my profile on
