SKYNET 5A

SKYNET 5A Background and technical overview.

HOME  > OPERATIONAL > MODES & FREQUENCIES > SATELLITES - RADIO TARGETS >

SKYNET 5A is a British military communications satellite operated for the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). It is part of the SKYNET 5 family, which provides secure satellite communications for UK forces and allied users. The current SKYNET 5 constellation still provides much of the UK's SATCOM capability.

There is documented history of pirate/unauthorised activity being heard through SKYNET 5A's UHF transponders, although it appears to be much less prominent in the published monitoring literature than the well-known FLTSATCOM/UFO pirate activity.

Michael Faraday born 22 Sep 1791

Shaping the modern electrical age, Michael Faraday (1791–1867) was a pioneering British scientist who transformed our understanding of electricity and magnetism. His discoveries included electromagnetic induction, which laid the foundation for electric generators and transformers, as well as the principles behind the electric motor.
